Getting to Athens Georgia
Athens is located 70 miles northeast of Atlanta off highway 78 (known os the "the Atlanta Highway" outside of Athens). Outside of Atlanta this road is very congested; it passes by popular Stone Mountain Park and does not begin to clear up untill you reach Snellville. You may want to take I-85 to Highway 316 instead which also goes directly to Athens. If you leave from southern Atlanta , take I-20 to Conyers, and conect with Highway 138 north, then join up with highway 78 outside of Monroe.
